by Tony Waiters & Bobby Howe. The reason why this book is called
Coaching 6,7 and 8 Year Olds and not ""Coaching 6 to 8 Year Olds"" is to stress the different stages in growth, development and skills learning that takes place over three years. From 6 to 7 to 8 is almost a lifetime to kids! All children are individuals and develop in different ways, and at different stages, so coaches are compelled to talk in general tearms.
Year One-(6-year-olds)
- The emphasis is on playing. Formal skills learning has little relevance to these young soccer minds.
Year Two-(7-year-olds)
- By now, young players have become familiar with soccer and handling the ball - both with feet and hands. More formal skills learning can now take place.
Year Three-(8-year-olds)
- Although the requirements don't change much - kids still want to play and kick a soccer ball - the third season should see them eager to develop thier skills.
